Macdonald Highlands, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America, History

The property that would ultimately become MacDonald Highlands was previously nestled away in the foothills and undeveloped. The city of Henderson judged the property “too rugged to develop,” but its location afforded unimpeded vistas of the Las Vegas Valley, making it an ideal location for a luxury home development.

MacDonald Highlands became the first environmentally friendly hillside development in the Las Vegas Valley when it was completed in 2010. With its use of Frank Lloyd Wright’s trademark architecture, it was the first residential development to successfully incorporate it into a desert setting. It was also the first low-density neighbourhood to offer large lots and open spaces.

The design guidelines in MacDonald Highlands are stricter than those in other Henderson communities and are aimed to maintain and protect the area’s natural mountainside. In fact, the community’s championship 18-hole golf course was designed with environmental sensitivity in mind. In addition, it is Nevada’s first golf course to use moisture sensors at the root level to conserve water.

Most of the area’s plantings are drought-resistant, and a network of trails weaves through the environment. Residents can use this as a place to enjoy some exercise, fresh air, and beauty.

Being a resident of that neighbourhood is a pleasure
